City Council · Meeting of September 8, 2026

GARDNER — Council files vendor fraud report, advances ordinances on spending oversight. The City Council unanimously filed an investigative report on a vendor payment fraud scheme that exposed municipal payment verification vulnerabilities, with prompt response resulting in recovery of nearly all stolen funds. The Council unanimously advanced three ordinances to final adoption stages, including measures establishing professional development spending oversight, parking exemptions for families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, and a municipal safety coordinator position.

The Council also accepted three donations totaling approximately $58,000: $5,000 for police community programs, a Capitol-flown flag, and a truck for the police K9 unit. The Council voted 9-0 to approve compensation for the Assistant Director of Community Development and Planning.
