Commission directs enhanced monitoring at sludge landfill

GARDNER — Commission extends sludge landfill enforcement oversight and directs enhanced monitoring through April 13. The Gardner Conservation Commission voted unanimously to continue its Enforcement Order discussion regarding the Sludge Landfill, directing Agent Justin Enright to conduct field monitoring during precipitation events and request recent engineering reports from the operator. Chairman Greg Dumas noted the spring season would enable observation opportunities.
Resident Alan Rousseau testified to the need for sustained enforcement, citing erosion risks from prior year incidents and Mayor Nicholson's recent statement about possible landfill expansion discontinuation.
