City Council · Meeting of May 18, 2026

GARDNER — The City Council unanimously approved reappropriation of $1.125 million in unexpended bond proceeds from the completed Waterford Street School replacement project, directing funds to Gardner Middle School roof replacement, City Hall entryway improvements, accessibility work at Waterford Community Center, and Gardner Educational Television relocation. Councillor Brad E. Heglin presented the Finance Committee's recommendations; all four projects meet the state requirement of at least 30-year useful life.

The Council also voted to send to first printing an amended water rate ordinance reflecting the Finance Committee's recommendation for a 15 percent increase, raising rates to $7.48 per 100 cubic feet effective July 1, 2026, citing the need to maintain financial stability and improve long-term rate transparency.
