Gardner Historical Commission approves prior minutes, addresses former Gardner News building. Chair Chris Pera reported that he and Commission Clerk Alan Agnelli met with the Mayor to stress the historic significance of 309 Central Street, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and in the West Gardner Square National Historic District, after bricks began falling from the structure's easterly side. Pera stated the Mayor assured the Commission his Administration has contacted the owner and recommended restoration to maintain historic character.
The Commission deferred discussion of 2026 Semiquincentennial initiatives and learned the city's Master Plan consultant identified the outdated MACRIS Inventory and lack of locally-designated historic districts and a demolition delay ordinance as preservation gaps.
