Historical Commission elects officers, adopts preservation permit rules

Gardner Historical Commission elects officers for 2026-2027 and formally adopts rules governing historic preservation applications. Chair Chris Pera, Vice Chair Chuck LaHaye, and Clerk Alan Agnelli were unanimously elected; the Commission also unanimously adopted Rules and Regulations Regarding Historic Preservation Special Permits Advisory Opinions establishing procedures for reviewing applications submitted to the Board of Zoning Appeals and issuing recommendations on whether projects will preserve historic structures and sites. Chair Pera was authorized to schedule a meeting with Mayor Nicholson, DPW Director Dane Arnold, and Cemetery Commission Chair John Awdycki to discuss funding for Old Burying Ground gravestone restoration according to a March 2026 Master Plan.
The Commission voted to seek a legal opinion from the Mayor regarding ownership and legal oversight of the Greenwood Memorial Pool.
