Gardner's City Council and School Committee elected Veronica Guay to the School Committee in a joint convention Tuesday. The 14-0 roll-call vote filled a vacancy with a term running through January 3, 2028, after Vice Chair Rachel Cormier nominated Guay and no other candidates came forward. The clerk administered the oath of office on the spot.
Mayor Michael Nicholson welcomed Guay, telling her, "Congratulations, Mrs. Guay, and welcome to the school committee." The body also cleared a backlog, approving joint convention minutes from January 2026 and January 2024, the latter after Councilor Kaczynski flagged a recorded meeting time he said should read "6.25 o'clock" rather than the figure on file. To head off a similar delay, members voted unanimously to let Nicholson approve Tuesday's own minutes without waiting for another joint convention.
