School Committee reorganizes with new member sworn in

Gardner School Committee reorganizes officers and welcomes new member. Mayor Michael Nicholson led the unanimous election of Rachel Cormier as Vice Chair, John LaFreniere as Finance Officer, Jennifer Pelavin and Robert Swartz as Alternate Finance Officers, and Anne Hurst as Secretary. Paul Cormier was introduced as the newest Committee member, sworn in January 5.
The Committee unanimously approved eight policies on second reading, including Educational Equity, School Superintendent governance, and Policy Implementation. The Committee ratified four warrants totaling $2.09 million through December 24, 2025. Student advisors reported Gardner High School achieved pre-pandemic MCAS benchmark levels and hosted community events including a Holiday Movie Night and Concert.
