Special Search Committee approves revised City Clerk and Assistant Clerk job descriptions

Special Search Committee for the City Clerk · Meeting of May 12, 2026

GARDNER — The Gardner Special Search Committee for the City Clerk unanimously approved revised job descriptions for both the City Clerk and Assistant City Clerk positions for recommendation to the full City Council. Council President George Tyros directed the committee to strike the word "all" from the City Clerk attendance requirement, allowing delegation within the office, and to distinguish required versus preferred qualifications throughout both descriptions. The committee changed the Massachusetts Certified Municipal Clerk designation from required to preferred, revised language permitting the Assistant City Clerk to perform duties at the City Clerk's direction regardless of the City Clerk's physical presence, and added language regarding nomination paper signature verification and oversight of standing and special committees.
