Commission delays Brookside tree removal over arborist

Conservation Commission · Meeting of September 14, 2026

Gardner conservation board stalls tree removal over missing arborist credential. The commission continued a request for determination of applicability filed by Eamon Iver for 282 Brookside Drive to October 26 after the applicant's contractor, JSP, told the board by email that no licensed arborists could be found, noting Massachusetts has no statewide licensing requirement. Members said the Massachusetts Certified Arborist credential, run by the Massachusetts Arborist Association since 1957, remains a legitimate voluntary standard and passed along a list of certified firms.

The board also approved a $500 expenditure for the MACC fall conference and heard that a new conservation agent could start before the September 28 meeting. On a separate enforcement case, the agent said a 2019 order of conditions for 400 Clark Street had been misfiled under a general "Clark Street" address, delaying its discovery for years.
